You will need to pass an Enhanced DBS check to work as a care worker. This background check will identify if you have a criminal record and will allow your employer to be confident that you’re a suitable choice for the role. Having a valid Enhanced DBS certificate is a legal requirement for care workers and for any health professionals who work with vulnerable people.

There are many different routes into care. This means that there are no strict requirements when it comes to qualifications. In fact, your attitude is often a more important consideration than traditional qualifications. You can enrol in college courses for a Level 1 Certificate in Health and Social Care, Level 2 Diploma in Care, or T Level in Health. However, if you would prefer another approach, you can pursue an apprenticeship or enter the industry by receiving on-the-job training from your employer. They will support you so that you can obtain any necessary qualifications.

The Care Certificate is a course that teaches the skills, knowledge, and practices involved in effective care. This makes it a useful part of the induction process at many care agencies. The course can be completed in a video-based e-learning format and has been broken down into 15 modules that you can complete at times that suit your schedule. As a result, you can progress through the material at your own speed. Each module is then assessed online. If you join the team at Verilife, we will ask you to complete your Care Certificate in advance, allowing us to test your competency during your induction.

You will be able to attend your own care visits once we are confident that you will provide the quality of care we are known for. You will shadow an experienced care worker at first and, if needed, will attend double-handed visits with another care worker to gain hands-on experience before setting off on your own. We will assess your competency to ensure that you can handle the responsibilities of the role. We will also check that you feel comfortable with attending visits on your own. If you lack experience, we will support you to help you feel confident.

We have full-time and part-time positions within our team, as well as positions for care workers who prefer to work at weekends or during the evenings. When you work for us, we will schedule your care visits so that they fit alongside your other obligations, allowing you to provide excellent care and maintain your personal routines.

You will have opportunities for training and personal development throughout your career. When you first join the team at Verilife we will train you to deliver high-quality care at home. This includes instruction on some of the smaller tasks that make all the difference, such as preparing egg and soldiers. Once you’re settled within your role, there will be opportunities to study for qualifications or to receive training in particular areas, such as caring for people with dementia.
